Urba Wellness

September 14th, 2009

Think Design are thrilled to announce that the company has been chosen to design the interior of the “Urba Wellness Club” on North Ottawa.

A 90,000 square foot space - it was the old “Auto Die Fitness Centre”…..now to be much more luxury and spa-like.

We don’t want to say too much about it - that is up to the owners - but watch the local press for further details

Think Design has been chosen to design the Penthouse Condominium Model at this exciting LEED Project.

David Weston said today “we are very pleased to be working with the partners at Locus Development again. We worked together on the Fitzgerald Project and now are looking forward to our first Green Project together, it is a great recipe for success!”

The condominiums are all 2 storeys, with an optional roof terrace, giving spectacular views over the city.

Thank you to everyone who have supported us and enabled us to be the best, two years running!

Everyone at Think Design and Paula Scott Unlimited are pleased to announce that we are to be a venue for ArtPrize.

We will be showcasing James Kwiecinski in our studio.

James is an MFA graduate of State Univeristy of New York, New Paltz and his work has been shown all over the world from Portland, Oregon and Miami, FL to Reykavik, Iceland and Milan, Italy.

His work has progressed in the manner of abstract expressionism on canvas and he continues to explore this complex form and method. His works have been published in many journals and James has received many distinguished honors including the Thayer Fellowship from Helen Harrison, noted juror from the New York Times.

James says:”My life reflects, as do my paintings, the wonderous and abstract nature of being. The more I paint, the freer I am and it is a joy to share this freedom with others, in the hope that it may inspire the same.”

We hope that you will all come and see and VOTE for James’s entry, we shall be posting a photo of it very soon!

Interior Art Forms

May 27th, 2009

People frequently ask me what my favorite design style is, and I invariably answer “All of them”, because the style of each project is as unique as each client is.  I do, however, maintain a common deniminator in my work, and that is executing each one from the perception of a room being a multimedia art installation. This does not, however, result in something as intimidating as it may sound, as each installation is developed specifically for the client’s functional needs. The interior design and architectural concepts are based on lifestyle preferences, structural mandates, space usage, color and style preferences, and, personality type. (I wasn’t a psych minor for nothing!)

Each completed project may be as dissimilar from one to the next as a Frank Gehrey design is to Versailles, but there is a presiding consistent component…approachability.  My designs are consistently welcoming, serene and warm, as I have had a lot of requests throughout my career, but not once has a client said “I want a cold, uninviting space”!  This is as true for residential projects as it is the restaurant and retail projects I have designed; they all say “Come in and relax!”

I achieve this anti-furniture showroom effect by focusing on the whole environment of the building making sure visual clues are repeated throughout the space by using color, pattern, line, scale, textures and, most importantly, the right balance of elements as represented by materials, shape and placement. Today’s vast resources of “Green” materials are making this easier to achieve, as a balance of nature is what my design style is all about. This is what makes a space livable, as the wrong balance can clash with one’s life as sure as plum clashes with puce.

The resulting composition of my interior art forms depends on all of the components being in harmony with each other, and to achieve this, each element must be thoroughly considered in it’s relationship with the other elements as well as the whole. I revel in always creating the new, the fresh, the non-derivative out of a world of materials and millenniums of history, to create interiors that are comforting, livable art-teriors.
